A Narrative of Voyages Around the World Performed by Captain James Cook

Andrew Kippis

Illustrated By: Stothard and Davenport

Published By: C. Whittingham

St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1820 edition of "A Narrative of Voyages Around the World Performed by Captain James Cook", by Andrew Kippis. Bound in tan leather with gold gilt borders on the cover and a black leather title band with gold gilt lettering on the spine, this miniature hardback two volume set contains 207 pages of text in volume one and 218 in volume two. Each edition has a title page featuring intricate engravings by Davenport stemming from an original painting by Stothard depicting Captain Cook's encounters with indigenous people. This account highlights the progress and events of Captain James Cook's three voyages - the first, to observe the transit of Venus and gather evidence for the existence of Terra Australis Incognita; the second, to circumnavigate the globe as far south as possible; and the third, to discover the Northwest Passage, are all highlighted here. This copy is in good condition - though there is some wearing to the leather on the boards, some weakness in the spine, and some foxing on the title pages and prelims, the remainder of the interior pages are bright, clean and readable. "Cook's Voyages" are looking for a new home and would be the perfect primary source for any imperial historian.
