Illustrated By: Sir J. Noel Paton

St Mary's Books is incredibly proud to present this 1888 first edition of "The National Shakespeare: a facsimile of the text of the First Folio of 1623", illustrated by Sir J. Noel Paton, this set contains three volumes, Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies. Handsomely bound in green leather with intricate engravings and gold gilt to the cover and spine, these hardback books are designed to replicate Shakespeare's first folios, and so contain hand-made paper with rough edges, helping to immerse the reader by increasing the realism of these facsimilie copies. Within the pages of these books, the reader is treated to Sir J. Noel Paton's whimsical, harrowing and intricate illustrations and engravings reflecting key moments in each play. These three volumes are in good to very good condition - other than some minor surface dust and some minor bumping to the edges and corners, these copies remain clean and bright on the outside. There is, however, some slight offsetting and foxing on the interior pages of these copies, particularly on the facing pages opposite any illustrations - however the majority of the text does remain bright, clean and readable. This set of "The National Shakespeare" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any Shakespeare enthusiast or collector.
