Illustrated By: George Cruikshank, John Leech, and Sir John Tenniel
Published By: Richard Bentley & Son, Publishers in Ordinary to her Majesty
St Mary's Books is incredibly proud to present this 1894 "Eighty Eighth Edition" of "The Ingoldsby Legends or Mirth and Marvels" by Thomas Ingoldsby or Richard Harris Barham, with illustrations by George Cruikshank, John Leech and Sir John Tenniel, among others. Collected in three volumes, the first volume has a letter bound in addressed to "Sir John" which suggests that this book was once in the property of Sir John Tenniel, having been gifted to him by someone involved in the publishing and creation of the book, who refers to it as "our new edition". Handsomely bound in navy cloth with gold gilt lettering to the spine, these hardback volumes contain Volume 1: i-xliv, 283pp.; Volume 2: i-x, 336pp.; Volume 3: i-viii, 280pp.. Within the pages of these books, the reader is similarly treated to whimsical black ink illustrations from a range of contemporary illustrators, such as the intricate frontispiece image by George Cruikshank. This three volume set is in good to very good condition - there is some minor bumping and signs of damage to the boards, but other than some very minor foxing and yellowing, the interior pages remain remarkably bright, clean and readable. "The Ingoldsby Legends" are looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any fairytale enthusiast.
