St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1856 United Church of England and Ireland edition of "The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments and other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church". This book is a fascinating slice of history - stemming from the United Church of England and Ireland, a unified Protestant Episcopal Church created by Article V of the Act of Union 1800, it remained in existence for just 69 years when the Irish Church Act of 1869 disestablished and separated the Irish Church. Bound in dark leather with all-edge gilt and intricate gold gilt decorative borders on the cover, this hardback book has 5 raised bands on its spine, separating stunning gold gilt decorations and text. Inside, one finds notes on the abolishment and retention of certain ceremonies, followed by a calendar of the year and a guide to timings for appropriate psalms. After which, the reader is treated to a lengthy chronicle of psalms, organised by time of year and occasion. This copy is in very good condition - though there are some signs of wear to the cover, such as some slight bumping and wearing, the interior remains remarkably clean and readable given its age, with only some minor foxing throughout. "The Book of Common Prayer" is looking for a new home where it will be similarly appreciated and preserved.
