The First Yale Unit A Story of Naval Aviation two volumes

Ralph D. Paine

Edition: First Edition

Published By: The Riverside Press

A definitive two volume history written by Ralph D. Paine and published in 1925. The book chronicles the origins of U.S. Naval Aviation through the true story of 29 elite Yale University undergraduates who formed a private air militia to prepare for America's inevitable entry into World War I. Highly regarded by historians for its preservation of primary source letters, family records and official Navy logs. This sought after set are bound in navy cloth with a gilt emblem to the front and gilt titles to the spine. The books are illustrated with several black and white photographs. Overall a very good set despite light surface wear and discolouration to the boards, fading and shelf wear to the spines. There is a previous owner's neat signature to the front free end-paper and the very occasional spot of foxing, otherwise the pages are very clean. A must have addition to any aviation library and part of a huge aviation collection just acquired by St Marys Books.
