This title is a highly regarded World War I memoir written by Squadron Leader Charles Philip Oldfield. This book published in 1974 has been edited and signed by prominent aviation historian Chaz Bowyer. Based on the detailed diaries Bartlett kept during his active service from his flight training in 1916 to joining No. 5 Wing of the Royal Naval Air Service and surviving the odds of the era by completing 101 combat missions and joining the newly formed Royal Air Force in 1918. The book features several sepia toned photographs, many captured by Bartlett. An interesting copy complete with its dust jacket. This copy has an obituary of C.P.O. Bartlett pasted onto the front free endpaper which is surrounded by a black pen border. There is a small strip of white paper to the front free end-paper and one to the verso, hiding a previous owner's signature and small piece missing along the top edge. Otherwise the book is in very good condition. pp. 180. A must for any aviation enthusiast.
