The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (First Edition)

John Maynard Keynes

Edition: First Edition

Published By: Macmillan and Co. Limited

St Mary's Books is incredibly proud to present this 1936 First Edition of "The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" by John Maynard Keynes. This pioneering macroeconomic theory, which argues that active government intervention through fiscal and monetary policies are necessary to mitigate recessions and inflation, is here presented in the first edition. Keynes' magnum opus, "The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" fundamentally reshaped the 20th century - helping states recover from the Great Depression, it became the standard macroeconomic model across the Western world following the Second World War, before it struggled to explain stagflation in the 1970s and was ultimately sidelined in favour of neoliberalism. Housed in its original grey dustjacket with black ink lettering, this hardback book is bound in dark green cloth with gold gilt lettering to the spine. Inside, one finds i-xii and 403 pages of text outlining the central aspects of the seminal theory which would come to be known as "Keynesianism". This copy is in excellent condition - though the original dustjacket has suffered some browning, particularly to the spine, the book itself appears bright, clean, and readable with few notable blemishes or imperfections, other than some minor offsetting on the front free endpaper. "The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any aviation enthusiast.
