This book is an authoritive record and anthology documenting the highly dangerous years of commercial aviation in the United States. Before private airlines took over, the U.S. government ran the airmail service, using surplus World War I aircraft to map out cross country routes, establish ground infrastructure, and develop night flying techniques. This book compiled and edited by Dale Nielson and published in 1962 by Air Mail Pioneers, an organisation formed by the original employees of the U.S Post Office Department's Air Mail Service to preserve the history of early aviation. This copy has been re-bound in cloth with a small paper label affixed to the front with the original front cover bound in. Overall a very good copy. The pages are clean, with the exception of a previous owner's signature to the front free endpaper. The binding presents well despite a slight blemish to the front. pp. xiii + 128. A fascinating look into the early days of Air Mail in the United States. A must for any aviation enthusiast.
