St Mary's Books is incredibly proud to present this 1940 First Edition of "An Old Captivity" signed and inscribed by the author, Nevil Shute. This copy features Shute's signature twice - once in an inscription dedicated to T. P. Summerson on the free endpaper, and another on the title page. Housed in its original dustjacket with navy ink lettering and red ink decorative borders, this hardback book is bound in yellow linen with brown ink lettering to the spine. Inside, past the maps on the free endpapers, one finds 312 pages of this fascinating novel following Donald Ross, a struggling Scottish pilot, hired by an eccentric Oxford don, Dr. Cyril Lockwood and his daughter Alix, to fly to Greenland on an aerial photography expedition. The original dustjacket can only be described as good to very good as it has suffered some yellowing and minor bumping along the top edge. In addition, the top corner of the book is bumped, and the free endpaper have yellowed - however, the remainder of the interior pages are bright, clean and readable. "An Old Captivity" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any literature enthusiast.
