Rudyard Kipling

Edition: First Edition

Illustrated By: J.L. Kipling, W.H. Drake And P. Frenzeny

Published By: Macmillan and Co

The Jungle Book is a classic collection of short stories and poems written by Rudyard Kipling. Best known for its tales of the man-cub Mowgli, the book is an anthology of fables set in the Indian jungle using anthropomorphic animals to teach vital moral lessons. This First Edition copy, published in 1894 is bound in rich blue cloth with beautiful gilt detail to the front and spine. All edges are gilt. There is a beautifully illustrated frontispiece, complete with its tissue guard and several more illustrations throughout. Overall a good copy of this classic children's story. The binding displays a little wear to the corners with light lifting of the cloth to the front. The spine has darkened and has a slight lean and a little shelf wear. Internally, there is slight cracking to the front hinge although the text block remains quite firm. The green endpapers have a small book plate to the front paste-down and there is light foxing and a few thumb marks to the pages, otherwise a good clean copy. pp. vi + 212. A lovely addition to any private library and a must for any Rudyard Kipling enthusiast.
