Illustrated By: Lieut.-Coloney Batty
Published By: William Tegg
St Mary's Books is proud to present this beautifully bound edition of "The Mutiny and Piratical Seizure of H.M.S. Bounty" by Sir John Barrow, featuring illustrations by Lieut-Colonel Batty. Handsomely presented in royal blue leather with a simple gold gilt blind tooled border, this hardback book has intricate floral gilt decorations on its spine, which also features five raised bands and a red leather title band with gold gilt lettering. A beautiful red and blue marbled pattern features on the edges of the book, and it continues inside on the free endpapers. Inside, one finds i-vi and 392 pages of text. Within the pages of this book, the reader is treated to a historical narrative of the mutiny of the Bounty, made up of fragments of disconnected primary sources, and supplemented by Lieut.-Col. Batty's black ink illustrations which help ground the reader in the events. This copy is in very good condition - the corners are bumped, there is some slight wearing on the spine, and there is an inscription on the front free endpaper and some minor foxing on the free endpaper and title page. In addition, the illustrated pages have yellowed. However, the copy otherwise remains remarkably bright, clean and readable particularly given its age. "Mutiny of the Bounty" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any lover of colonial history.
