Published n 1882, this copy is the tenth edition, revised. A landmark travel guide, which when first published introduced Victorian-era holidaymakers to the regions rugged geography, deep mining roots, and cultural folklore. Bound in burgundy cloth with embossed ruled lines to the borders and gilt titles to the front board. Adverts to the front and rear endpapers with a folded map located in a pocket to the rear. Overall a good copy despite the binding displaying rubbing and wear, small pieces missing along the base of the fore-edge. There is a neat inscription to the half title page, and a little staining to the rear endpapers. Otherwise a good clean copy, and still complete with its original rear folding map and ribbon book marker. pp. 48 + 157 + 50. A fascinating guide and a must for any Murray's travel enthusiasts.
