Published By: Ernest Benn Ltd.

St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1928 first edition of "The Tragedy of the Italia: With the Rescuers to the Red Tent" by Davide Giudici. Bound in black cloth with silver gilt lettering to the spine, this hardback book contains i-viii and 216 pages of text peppered with black and white photographs and with a fold-out map to the back of the book. Within the pages of this book, the reader is treated to a gripping first-hand account of a dramatic polar rescue mission. Following the crash of General Umberto Nobile's airship, the "Italia", in the frozen wastes of the Arctic in 1928, an international effort was launched to find the survivors in their "Red Tent" or makeshift shelter. Davide Giudici was aboard the Soviet icebreaker "Krassin", and provides an eyewitness perspective on the rescue. This copy is in good condition - the exterior has suffered some minor bumps, the silver gilt has faded and there is some damage to the cover. In addition, there is some foxing throughout the copy. "The Tragedy of the Italia" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any rescue mission enthusiast.
