Published By: Cunliffe-Owen Aircraft Limited
The Owenairian was the official, wartime staff magazine for Cunliffe-Owen Aircraft Limited, a British aircraft manufacturer. Founded by wealthy industrialist Sir Hugo-Cunliffe-Owen, the company operated out of a major factory in Swaythling Eastleigh near Southampton. This bound copy contains several of these magazines, including, No. 1, December, 1939, February 1940 to May 1940, then July, 1940 and October, 1940. The October is of historical significance as this was published at the height of the Battle of Britain and remarkably published just one month after the September 11, 1940 German Luftwaffe bombing of the Swaythling factory which tragically killed over 50 employees. Our copy which is quarter bound in cream cloth with green cloth sides has the added bonus of an inscription from the Editor A.C. McEvoy to the front free endpaper. Overall a very good copy despite minor discolouration to the cream cloth. A must for any aviation enthusiast.
