The Flowering Plants, Grasses, Sedges, And Ferns of Great Britain And Their Allies is the definitive great work of celebrated Victorian botanical illustrator and author Anne Pratt. This monumental multi volume work became the benchmark for accessible plant identification across the British Isles for over half a century. While early editions were published as a five volume set, the complete comprehensive set consists of six volumes, published by Frederick Warne in the 1870's. Volume VI, historically consolidates the specialised sections covering British grasses, sedges, ferns, and their distinct allies. This set is renowned for containing 319 beautifully detailed chromolithographic colour plates, plus one in monochrome. This set is beautifully bound in full green cloth with gilt titles and delicate gilt detail to each front board and gilt titles to the spines. All edges are gilt. The binding has worn especially to the top and base of the spines with a little discolouration to the rear of two volumes. There is foxing throughout, however the text is generally legible. There are a few loose pages to volumes two and six. Overall a good set beatifully illustrated by Anne Pratt, one of the most successful and prolific female botanical illustrators of the Victorian era.
