The Story of The Aeroplane written by aviation pioneer Claude Grahame-White is a record detailing the rapid evolution of aviation. It tracks progress from the initial glides of Otto Lilienthal and the Wright brothers up to the commercial and military innovations just prior to World War I. This copy, published in 1911, has a neat inscription from the author to the half title page. Handsomely bound in green cloth with gilt title block to the front board and bright gilt titles to the spine. The fore-edge untrimmed. Illustrated with several historical photographs. Overall a very good copy, the binding is clean and displays very little wear. There are the remnants of a removed book plate to the front paste-down, the rest of the pages remain clean. pp. xii + 390. A scarce title with the signature and a must for any aviation enthusiast.
