Ordnance Survey Professional Papers Air Survey And Archaeology is widely recognised as the foundation of modern aerial archaeology. It demonstrated how aerial photography could reveal hidden, ancient landscapes that were completey invisible from the ground. It notably documented the buried sections of the Stonehenge Avenue using variations in crop growth. Our copies consist of the following; New Series No.7, published in 1924, New Series No7 Second Edition, Published in 1928 and New Series, No.12. published in 1929 titled Air-Photography for Archaeologists. This manual categorised archaeological air photo sites into three specific classes; Shadow Sites, Bare Soil and Crops. All three volumes are paper covered with printed titles in black to the front. Despite some discolouration to the covers, most notably on New Series No.7, all are in good condiiton. Additionally, No.12 has been disbound, while the covers remain, the text block is loose. There is a little chipping and wear to the spines of all. Internally the pages remain clean and are profusely illustrated with maps & diagrams. A fascinating delve into history and a must for any archaeologist or aviation enthusiast.
