St Mary's Books is incredibly proud to present this 20 volume set of the 1989 second edition of "The Oxford English Dictionary" prepared by J. A. Simpson and E. S. C. Weiner. Housed in their original navy dustjackets with yellow lettering, these hardback books are bound in navy cloth with the University of Oxford's crest blind tooled on the cover and gold gilt lettering to the spine. On the edges of each edition, one finds a charming blue ink speckled pattern, and each edition is roughly the same length, as the books are no longer separated by letter groupings. Dubbed "a scholarly Everest" and "one of the wonders of the world", the Second Edition of The Oxford English Dictionary compiled the First Edition published in fascicles between 1884 and 1928, with the supplements that followed, and added five thousand new words and senses to provide a comprehensive history and record of the English Language to date. This mammoth set is in very good condition - each of the dustjackets have been well-preserved and have suffered few notable imperfections, and the interior of each book remains bright, clean, and readable.
