St Mary's Books are incredibly proud to present this 1903 edition of "Evelina, Or the History of a Young Lady's Entrance into the World" by Frances Burney, illustrated by Hugh Thomson. Bound in forest green cloth with all-edge gilt, gold gilt lettering, and a beautiful and intricate gold gilt illustration of Evelina resting underneath a full and leafy tree on the cover, this hardback book contains i-xxxv and 478 pages of text. Within the pages of this book, the reader steps into the world of Evelina, the unacknowledged but legitimate daughter of a dissipated English aristocrat, raised in rural seclusion, who now must learn to navigate the complex layers of 18th century English aristocratic society. This charming tale and biting satire is brough to life by Hugh Thomson's fantastic black ink illustrations which feature throughout the book. This copy is in very good condition - though there is some minor bumping to the corners and edges, some small closed tears to the top of the spine, the beautiful cover design is slightly rubbed and faded, and there is some minor foxing to the free endpaper, this copy nevertheless remains well-preserved, with a bright, clean and readable interior. "Evelina" is looking for a new home where it will be similarly enjoyed and appreciated.
