The Novels of Jane Austen in Ten Volumes

Jane Austen

Edition: Sixth Edition

Published By: J. M. Dent and Company

Publication Date: 1897

St Mary's Books are incredibly proud to present this 1897 sixth edition of "The Novels of Jane Austen in Ten Volumes". These hardback books are handsomely bound in cream cloth with the lettering to the spine, the facsimilies of Austen's signature on the cover, and the title encircled in intricate decorations, all done in gold gilt. Within this set, one finds - Volumes I and II of "Sense and Sensibility" (i-xxxii & 162pp. and 218pp.); Volumes I and II of "Pride and Prejudice" (i-vii & 191pp. and 210pp.); Volumes I and II of "Mansfield Park" (i-vi & 245pp. and 249pp.); Volumes I and II of "Emma" (i-vi & 245pp. and 258pp.); "Northanger Abbey" (i-iv & 245pp.); and "Persuasion" (i-iv and 261pp.). Within the pages of these novels, the reader steps into the world of the 18th century English landed gentry through the eyes of Jane Austen. Austen was critical of contemporary novels of sensibility, and often implicitly critiqued the dependence of women on marriage for social standing and economic security through her novels. This set is in very good condition - though the corners are slightly bumped, there is some minor staining and warping of the cloth on the boards, and many of the ex-libris sections on the front-free endpapers are filled in - this nevertheless remains a charming and well-preserved set. "The Novels of Jane Austen" are looking for a new home where they will be similarly enjoyed and appreciated.
