Isaac Walton and Charles Cotton

Publication Date: 1808

The Complete Angler Or The Contemplative Man's Recreation is a timeless pastoral classic originally published in 1653 by Izaak Walton. Written in the aftermath of the English Civil War, it uses the tranquil, harmonious world of fishing as a peaceful retreat from the polital turmoil of the era. This copy, published in 1808, has been bound in full leather with a re-backed spine. Illustrated with several engravings throughout, including an illustrated half-title page and frontispiece. Overall a good copy with the leather displaying minimal wear. There is a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown and some age related discolouration to the pages. Otherwise, a good clean copy pp. 512 + 2. A lovely addition to any private library and a must for any fishing enthusiast.
