The Life & Opinions Of Tristram Shandy in two volumes

Laurence Sterne

Published By: Gibbings & Company

Publication Date: 1903

The Life & Opinions Of Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne is one of the most eccentric and influential masterpieces in English Literature, originally published as a nine volume set.  This unconventional biography is a bawdy, satirical novel in which the narrator, Tristam, frequently gets distrated by family anecdotes and philosophical tangents. Consequently, he is not born until the third volume. The plot details a series of early misfortunes which shape Tristram's life. This set, complete in two volumes, published in 1903 are beautifully half bound in burgundy leather with marble paper covered sides. They feature a floral decorative detail and titles to the spines and are beautifully illustrated throughout. There is a little rubbing and wear to the leather especially on the spines. Although generally in good condition. The pages display some age-related discolouration, however they are generally clean. Volume I, pp. vi + 373. Volume II, pp. vi + 348. A lovely addition to any private library and a beautiful gift.
