St Mary's Books is proud to present The Folio Society's 2000 edition of R.D. Blackmore's 1869 work Lorna Doone a historical tale of violence and romance in late 17th-century England, centered around an Exmoor clan. This edition of the book follows the revised 1883 text, with minor emendations. The story is preceded by an introduction (pp.xi-xviii) by John Sutherland, as well as an author's preface (p.xix), both of which establish the textual authority and explain the myhtos of Exmoor. This copy is housed in a dark navy protective slipcase; it is bound in a matching navy cloth, printed in black with an illustration by David Rooney (whose other illustrations can be found throughout the text) of people on horseback riding over a moor, with gilt sunlight showing over the crest. There is some rubbing on the top and bottom edge of the spine, as well as the edges and some light marking of the front cover, but all blemishes are minor in this case.
