St Mary's Books is proud to present this first edition of Craig S. Harwood's and Gary B. Fogel's 2012 work Quest for Flight - a biographical account of John J. Montogomery, a Californian scientist who successfully designed and piloted gliders during the 1880s - twenty years before the Wright brothers' flight at Kitty Hawk. Archival black-and-white photographs of Montgomery, his family and the gliders which he developed are included alongside the prose, allowing readers visual insight into his life and work. The book is bound in brown cloth, with silver lettering for the title, authors' names and publishing house down  the spine. There is slight bumping to the ends of the spine and to the bottom corner of the front cover. Additionally, this copy does come with the original pictorial dust-jacket, displaying a colourised photograph of Joseph C. Vierra flying 'The Evergreen' glider and the title is printed in brown lettering above. The dust-jacket is in very good condition, with some creasing to the top edge of the spine and marking to the back cover. Overall, this is a fascinating account of a man who was at the forefront of early aviation and anyone interested in the development of the field would enjoy this title. pp.241.
