St Mary's Books is proud to present this fantastic 1957 first edition of Rocket by Air Chief Marshal Sir Philip Joubert de la Ferté - a history of the development of rocket technology from Chiozza in 1379 to the mid-20th century. Between the years 1941-1943 Joubert de la Ferté was a senior Royal Air Force commander and as a result, the book has a strong WWII focus, having an especially detailed account of the German military's Peenemünde program and their development of V-1 flying bombs and V-2 rockets. Additionally, the book contains 21 black-and-white archival photographs, providing helpful visual documentation. The book is beautifully bound with dark blue cloth, the author's name and the title of the work is embossed in gilt lettering on the spine, accompanied by a white illustration of a V-2 rocket - there is minor bumping to the ends of the spine. This copy does come with its original pictorial dust-jacket, which displays an illustration of two V-2 rockets moving through the sky, above, the title is printed in yellow lettering. The dust-jacket has been neatly price-clipped, it has three small tears long its bottom edge and there is some rubbing to the ends of the spine. This is a wonderful book for enthusiasts of military history or aerospace engineering and a unique addition to any collection. pp.190.
