The Rural Muse, Poems by John Clare. London: Whittaker & Co., 1835. First Edition. 16mo. Bound in contemporary half calf with marble boards. Simple gilt titling to second compartment of spine with tooled floral decoration to the other compartments, five raised bands to spine. Spine and extremities rubbed causing scuffing and loss of the leather. All edges marble with marble endpapers. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece of the Poet's Cottage at Northborough and an engraved vignette to the title page of Northborough Church - both illustrations drawn and engraved by C. Marr. Heavy foxing to the prelims and rear endpapers. Contents clean. Tight binding. pp 175. £850.00
