A very good Folio Society edition of this selection of ghost stories by M. R. James. Both front and rear boards show some very slight wear to the extremities, retaining their pictorial design very well. The spine shows some slight wear to the top edge and is a little faded. The gold gilt title to the spine is a little worn but remains bright. The dark top edge of the text block is slightly faded towards the spine, but generally retains its colour well. Housed in a sleek grey slipcase with some small markings and signs of wear. Pages are clean throughout, giving the impression of being unread. pp. xi + 207. Overall, a really interesting selection of texts, deeply influential upon modern horror, alongside an introduction by Nigel Kneale and a number of lithographs by Charles Keeping.
