St Mary's Books is proud to present this stunning 1612 edition of "Missale Romanum Ex Decreto Sacrosancti Concily Trid restitutum", bound in a later leather binding. This hardback book features all edge gilt and gilt lettering and decorations to the spine and boards. Inside, one finds a bookplate indicating that this edition once belonged to William Cecil Chambers. Beyond this is a stunning title page featuring a black ink illustration of saints and prophets outside an ornate building in the style of classical architecture. Throughout this book, there is a playful mixture of red and black ink, stunning black ink illuminated initials, and interestingly, sheet music for various hymns throughout the book. This amazing window into history is in fair to good condition, there is some wearing to the cover and spine, the front board is threatening to lift, and there are several inscriptions to the free endpapers. However, remarkably, the text of this over-400 year old book is very clean and readable. This amazing book is looking for a new home, and would make for a perfect gift for any collectors.
