St Mary's Books is proud to present this stunning 1910 edition of "Model Balloons and Flying Machines with a short account of the progress of aviation" by J. H. Alexander, M. B., A. I. E. E. Bound in stunning olive green buckram with gold gilt lettering, this book features a charming black ink illustration of a plane on its cover. Inside, one finds i-x, 127pp., and 32 pages of advertisements, detailing the author's ideas to assist those pioneers who were attempting to build the first flying machines. Peppered with black and white photographs, including a stunning image of M. Bleriot landing at Dover after his cross-channel flight on the frontispiece, this book also contains 5 sheets of working drawings to the rear with the authors various suggestions as to how to construct an aircraft. This book is in good condition, though the cover is slightly bumped, there is an inscription on the front free endpaper, an embossed "presentation only" sign on the title page, and the edges of some of the pull out maps are scuffed - this book is otherwise clean and readable, remarkable for its age and rarity. This stunning book is looking for a new home, and would make for a perfect gift for any early aviation enthusiast.
