St Mary's Books is proud to present, "Livre d'Or de la Grande Semaine d'Aviation de la Champagne", or, the Golden Book (Guest Book) of the Great Champagne Aviation Week, the world's first major international air meet, held in Reims, France, from 22nd-29th August, 1909. This stunning book is in a later hardback brown cloth binding with a quarter leather and a red leather title plate. Inside, one finds a small pocket containing an original paperback programme from the air meet, with 16 pages of text, it is peppered with maps and useful information in a playful mixture of red and black ink. Beyond this, one finds that the original paper covers of the "Golden Book" have been incorporated into this new binding. With 224 pages of text, this guest book is peppered with original black and white photographs with French descriptions guiding the reader through the events of the air meet. This remarkable slice of history is in very good condition - the later binding has ensured that both the guest book and programme have been well preserved, and the pages appear clean, bright, and readable despite their age. This book is looking for a new home, and would make for a wonderful gift for any aviation enthusiasts.
