St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1911 new and revised edition (second edition) of "The Conquest of the Air. Aeronautics Aviation. History. Theory. Practice." by Alphonse Berget is signed by the author. Bound in navy cloth with white ink lettering and a charming illustration of a plane on the cover and gold gilt lettering on the spine, this hardback book contains i-xx and 249 pages of text. Inside, one finds two stunning frontispieces - the first, a photograph of the first circular dirigeable flight, and the second, a photograph of the first round journey by a "heavier than air" machine. This text is peppered with similarly stunning contemporary black and white photographs and diagrams, detailing the leaps and bounds that had been made in the progress of the science of aviation over a short period. This book is in good condition - there is some offsetting to the free endpapers, some foxing throughout the book, and the prelims pages containing the title and two frontispieces are loose. However, for a copy of this age and rarity, this book remains well-preserved. "The Conquest of the Air" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any early aviation enthusiast.
