In June 1937, Baidukov served as the co-pilot for a three-man crew led by Commander Valery Chkalov, with Alexander Belyakov as the navigator. They piloted the ANT-25, a single-engine aircraft designed by Andrey Tupolev specifically for long-range missions. The expedition was a major international event, and the crew was received as heroes in the United States. They were invited to the White House for a meeting with President Franklin D. Roosevelt, which lasted over an hour and a half—significantly longer than the planned 15 minutes. The flight proved the feasibility of trans-polar aviation, which later became a standard for international travel in a very good sharp dustjackect.
