This lovely hardback circa 1912 edition of "Building and Flying an Aeroplane: A Practical Handbook covering the Design, Construction, and Operation of Aeroplanes and Gliders" by Charles B. Hayward is bound in red cloth with gold gilt lettering. Inside, one finds i-vii and 142 pages of text peppered with contemporary black and white photographs, tables, and diagrams. This wonderful book is intended for the amateur inventor, who may otherwise be "filled with the confidence born of ignorance... he works out a brand new design... the invariable result is failure, discouragement, and a loss of time and money" - therefore, in providing a basic guide, the author hopes to assist the amateur inventor get off the ground. This book is in good condition - though there are some slight stains on the cover and some bumping to the edges, the interior remains clean and readable. "Building and Flying an Aeroplane" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for the amateur inventor.
