St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1918 first edition of "Five Years in the Royal Flying Corps" by James Thomas Byford McCudden. Bound in blue cloth with navy lettering on the cover and spine, this hardback book contains i-xvi and 348 pages of text detailing McCudden's wartime aviation experiences and peppered with black and white photographs of the author and his peers. Within the pages of this book, the reader is treated to the first-hand account of a British WW1 ace, and his journey from an aircraft mechanic in 1913 to a highly decorated pilot and flight commander, including his strategies and thoughts on the future of aviation. This book was published posthumously after McCudden was tragically killed in a flying accident caused by engine failure, and comes alongside an R.F.C Christmas Card from 1915. This particular copy is in very good condition - though the cloth on the boards is faded, and there is a "1928 R. M. Groves Memorial Prize" paste-down on the free endpaper, alongside an image of R. M. Groves, a fellow aviator and Deputy Chief of the Air Staff. However, the interior of this copy remains bright, clean and readable. "Five Years in the Royal Flying Corps" is looking for a new home and would make for a perfect gift for any aviation enthusiast.
