St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1931 first edition of the "Report of the R.101 Inquiry" written by John Simon, as commanded by His Majesty and later presented to Parliament by Lord Amulree, Secretary of State for Air. This teal paperback book is complete with the royal crest on the front cover in black ink, and contains 129 pages of text, supplemented by diagrams, fold out weather maps and tables of information. Within the pages of this book, one finds the official government inquiry into R.101, a British rigid airship that crashed on its maiden voyage to India in 1930, killing 48 of the 54 people on board. The catastrophic failure of the airship, and the impact of this subsequent report, effectively ended the airship programme. This report is in very good condition - though the cover is slightly stained, there is a small inscription on the cover and front free endpaper, and the corners are slightly bumped or folded - this little slice of history remains miraculously well preserved. "Report of the R.101 Inquiry" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for anyone with an interest in the history of British dirigeables.
