This rare first edition copy, housed in a later dust jacket, is an interesting account of a German airman's experiences with the famous Staffel during the First World War. He relates his involvement in the Staffel in the Verdun sector and later in the La Cateau district fighting against the British at the time of the big German offensive. The last few chapters give a vivid picture of the German "crack-up" in November, 1918, and sidelights the revolution and the collapse of the German war machine. It is bound in light blue cloth and illustrated with plates of black and white photographs. Overall, this copy is in good condition. All throughout, the pages are bright and clean. There is an inscription in the front of the book dedicated to a previous owner. There is only some very slight wear to the bottom edge of the covers. The second state dustjacket is in fair condition - it is torn along the top, with some discolouration as well. There is also a circular tear on the spine, where an illustration used to be. The other edges have experienced only a little wear. pp. 227 + 30 pages of advertisements.
