This lovely 1931 first edition of "The Book of the Air" by G. G. Gibbard is housed in its original pictorial dustjacket featuring an illustration of three aeroplanes in flight against a backdrop of a tranquil coastal scene. Bound in royal blue cloth with gold gilt lettering to the cover and spine, this hardback book provides a children's history of the development of early aviation, supplemented by contemporary black and white photographs and full-colour illustrations. This copy is in fair condition - there is some sun damage to the top and bottom of the spine, two of the plates are missing and there is an inscription on the front free endpaper. The original dustjacket, on the other hand, can only be described as poor, due to the significant losses and damage it has suffered. "The Book of the Air" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any aviation enthusiast.
