Published By: Missouri Aviation Corporation

St Mary's Books are proud to present this incredible slice of history, a "M.A.C. Improved Pilot's Log" belonging to Sergeant Graham Alan Rich (Service Number 1315748, RAFVR), a Photographic Reconnaissance Spitfire Pilot in WW2, complete with some of his personal letters, photographs, his military pass, and his RAF insignia. Bound in brown cloth with black ink lettering, this hardback Pilot's Log contains several pages of text, filled out by Rich, logging his flights and training, with several entries referring to his experience in Spitfires at 20,000 and 25,000 feet whilst at the Southern Aviation School, the US Army Basic Flying School, and the US Army Advanced Flying School. Rich, originally from Swansea, became a pilot with the Photo Reconaissance Unit, and on the 18th April 1943, while flying the Supermarine Spitfire PR.XI from Portreath to Gibraltar, his aircraft suffered a fuel system failure and he was forced to crash-land in Furadouro, Portugal. After walking for three hours to find a village, he contacted the British Embassy in Lisbon and was repatriated to the UK a few months later, an event chronicled by the exact letter his mother sent him whilst he was stuck in Portugal. This incredibly rare and immaculately preserved collection of material is looking for a new home, and would make for the perfect gift for any aviation enthusiast.
