St Mary's Books is incredibly proud to present this 1946 limited edition of "The Garden" signed by the author, Vita Sackville-West. Bound in light brown cloth with gold gilt lettering to the cover encircled by an intricate gold gilt botanical border, this hardback book contains 135 pages of text. Within the pages of this book, the reader is treated to Sackville-West's poem - written during the Second World War, it takes the reader through the steady rhythm of the seasons and the natural changes within the garden juxtaposed with the violent, nonsensical unpredictability of war. In her own words, "small pleasures must correct great tragedies, therefore of gardens in the midst of war I boldly tell". This copy, which marks number 347 of a limited print run of 750, is in very good condition. With few notable blemishes or imperfections, this book has been remarkably well-preserved. "The Garden" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any lover of literature, poetry, or enduring social commentary.
