Containing 680 pages of text, this "XXL-sized edition" contains digitally remastered reprints of the first 23 issues of the comics, accompanied by an in-depth history by comic book historian Peter Sanderson. In 1976 as George Lucas prepared to shoot "The Star Wars", he asked Marvel Comics to publish a comic book for the film's release. Offering to give the rights for free and only accept royalties after 100,000 sales, Marvel reluctantly agreed to Lucas' proposal. Upon the movie's release in May 1977, Marvel released they had a hit on their hands. The first issues sold over one million copies, four times Marvel's top superhero title, "The Amazing Spider-Man".
