St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1952 first edition of "The House by the Canal" by Georges Simenon. Bound in lime green cloth, this hardback book features a maroon title band with white ink lettering. Inside, one finds 266 pages of text detailing the dark tale of Edmee, a girl from the city whomst, following the tragic death of her parents, headed to the countryside to live with her relations, only to find her Uncle had also died. Edmee then embarks on several gruesome quests, such as the pursuit of a squirrel-fur coat, exploring her power over the remaining men of the family. This copy is in good condition - other than a few minor stains, the exterior appears well-preserved. Inside, however, it is apparent that this is an ex-library book, as the free endpapers contain ex-library stamps and paste-downs, so too does the copyright page. However, the remainder of the interior pages are largely brigbht, clean and readable, with the odd spot of foxing here and there. "The House by the Canal" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any literature enthusiast.
