St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1967 first edition of "John Joseph Montgomery 1858-1911: Father of Basic Flying" signed by the author, Arthur Dunning Spearman. Housed in its original cream dustjacket featuring black ink lettering encircling a black and white photograph of Montgomery operating a flying machine, this hardback book is bound in beige cloth with a matching cover design. Inside, one finds i-xx and 241 pages of text, peppered with black and white photographs and facsimilies of original documents, telling the thrilling story of John Joseph Montgomery's life and contributions to early aviation. This copy is in very good condition - though the dustjacket has suffered some bumping and a tear towards the bottom of the spine and thus can only be described as good - the book itself remains clean and well-preserved. There is a "British Gliding Association" library paste-down on the front free endpaper, and a 1973 newspaper clipping paste-down to the rear-free endpaper - but the book remains otherwise virtually as-new. "John Joseph Montgomery" is looking for a new home and would make for the perfect gift for any aviation enthusiast.
