St Mary's Books is proud to present this 1963 first edition of Desmond Young's work Rutland of Jutland - a biographical account of Frederick Joseph Rutland, who was a controversial figure - first serving in WWI as part of the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) and becoming a national hero by piloting a reconnaissance seaplane to track the German fleet; later in life, Rutland worked closely with the Imperial Japanese military and intelligence services as a spy. Alongside the text, there are 9 black-and-white photographic plates depicting Rutland and his military career. This copy does retain its original dust jacket; it is covered with a protective plastic sleeve that has been taped onto the front and back endsheets - the dust-jacket is in very good condition with only minor rubbing and a very small tear to the top edge of the spine. The jacket is printed with an illustration of a WWI aircraft flying over a navy ship. There is a small red circular mark to the bottom edge of the pages. This is an exceptional book and this particular copy is in extraordinary condition, it would be the perfect addition to any collection. pp.181.
